Nature & Parks

Parc Phoenix is an animal park home to a huge tropical glasshouse, aviaries & habitats for otters & wallabies. It's a great place for children and adults alike and contains a wide variety of plants and flowers. The high selections of gardens around the huge pond feature many varieties of birds that are bred under intensive care.

Brilliant day out, we had a picnic in the park, then walked around the gardens. There is only a few animals here but it is something different from the rest of Nice highly recommend with kids. 5 euro entry for adults and only a few minutes walk around from the Parc Phoenix tram stop.

Luke — Google review

It's absolutely stunning. Huge variety of flora from all over the world. Many birds, some animals, insects, also exotic. Well kept. Not crowded. Don't trust those who leave bad reviews. The park is definitely worth visiting.

Yevgen B — Google review

Amazing park to visit, many plants, some animals, nice views. For 3 euros for students it is definitely worth it. The otters are very cute, especially the small ones.

We we’re visiting in the Phoenix park with my family middle of April. Unfortunately the visiting was truly disappointment. Almost all the plants, flowers and animals wasn’t look good. There are some good services as several free toilets, one small cafeteria and some sort of picnic area. The place needs maintenance and some service before visiting can be enjoyable.

Alexander S — Google review

Amazing, well maintained Park! We went on Easter weekend and there were lots of things for kids, bouncy castles, play area, labyrinthine, mini zoo and tree climbing for all ages!.. you can also bring your own picnic.

Laeti P — Google review

Great place to visit during my stay in Nice. Beautiful flowers an animals.Small enclosures and expensive prices for food and water/drinks.Would recommend if you are in Nice, bring your own food and water/ packed lunch.

Zo? O — Google review

It was a nice walk through the parc. The greenhouse is bigger than expected. Very cheap entry around 5€ for adult. We couldnt lock our backpack so that was a miss, had to carry it through the parc.

Tai-Chi C — Google review

Very clean and was a great scenic walk. The plants were very well taken care of and it was hilarious seeing peaco*cks and ducks roam around the place.

I recently visited Park Phoenix in Nice and had a wonderful time. The park is enormous, offering a wide variety of sights and fascinating animals that make for an engaging experience. It's an excellent destination for a family outing or for anyone with a few hours to spare while in Nice. Be warned, you start off inside the small "greenhouse" but there is a lot to see outside as well. One drawback was that some of the tanks and glass enclosures were quite dirty, which made it difficult to see inside and fully appreciate the insects and animals. However, this minor inconvenience didn't detract too much from the overall experience. While I'm sure it doesn't affect the animals, the appearance from the outside also looked unkempt, but the inside conditions for the animals looked very well maintained.Despite this, I would definitely recommend a visit, especially given the tiny admission fee, which offers great value for money. Park Phoenix is a delightful place to explore and enjoy a peaceful day amidst nature.A bonus, it's right beside the Asian Art Museum with free admission, so it's easy to check that off the list as well.

MotoKingRob — Google review

Lovely place, didn’t expect much for the entry price but could have spent the whole day there. I’d like to go back with a nice camera and spend the day taking pictures of the plants, animals, fish, birds etc. There’s so much to see. Highly recommend it.

Alan M — Google review

What a great place to get away from all the shops and buildings. Some lovely animals and reptiles hidden away here. All very well looked after. Nice to just sit relax and watch the Lemurs as well. Huge place

Charlie ( — Google review

A relatively small but vibrant park with a lovely selection of animal life to have a look and ponder at.The Peaco*ck is particularly a character and will very happily approach you with tail out and shimmering!!We had an amazing hour or so wandering and enjoying the flora and fauna along with the animals & reptiles.A much recommended visit if your in the area!!!

Vic — Google review

It felt a bit "wrong time" - some parts of the park were abandoned - not sure if because of the season (middle of summer) or lack of attention - but we saw plenty of non existing plants (where the name card was left but no item itself). Not so many animals as well. It's nice place to have a slow stroll but don't expect too much - it needs some maintenance. There were kangaroos, lemurs, porcupine, otters, domeaticated animals and some birds. There is a section with insects, snakes and crocodile. But you can't compare to any proper Zoo - neither because of numbers, or size, or educational programme. It is a park. With tree climbing zone, kids area and cafeteria. So, probably going there with kids would make much more sense.

Vytautas K — Google review

Nice place to stroll through to see pretty flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees along with few animals.Very close to the airport and accessible by tram, restaurant on site and also a climbing park for both older and younger kids.

Michal B — Google review

The park was once created with love, but it looks like it hasn't been maintained as well since then. The condition of the animals varies greatly depending on the species. Some “cute” animals such as monkeys or otters make a very good impression. Things look different when it comes to insects and reptiles. Many have multiplied uncontrollably, no longer look healthy or are lying lifeless in the enclosure.I would not recommend the park and am ashamed that I supported it with my visit.

Svea B — Google review

This was a pleasant surprise!I was hesitant to go in here but we really liked it. It was very cozy and calming. Not only plants but also many different species of animals can be seen. 5 eur for the entrance, I'd say it is worth!

What a great place.Close to the airport and tram stops. The animals are well cared for and the enclosures well laid out.The large outdoor areas offer great space to relax.

Really nice botanic garden with some animals, lovely paths, and great glasshouse! Great place to go and relax even though next to the airport.

Nice park in Nice.Don't expect a lot of animals, but it's perfect for a walk. Also the building with the jungle plants would be very interesting for someone who is interested in plants (I am not at all :) )

We went on a day it was free just by chance. Evenso, it is a brilliant few hours to walk around the gardens. There is a good view of the airport through the trees which pleased the kids. The animals were an added bonus.

Very pleasant. Exotic plants and animals, well marked and described. Plus lots of native birds and plants. Room for kids to run around plus a play area. Not crowded, even on a free day.

Wonderful Park with various lovely plants and lots of animals like turtles, ponies and tropical birds. The prices in my opinion are great for what you get and it was surprisingly empty on a Sunday so we could relax and take everything in without feeling rushed.

Despite the fact, that we were in the park in January, we really liked it. As a lover of flowers and flora, I really enjoyed it and I recommend visiting the park, a really very peaceful place.

Island

Nature & Parks

The small and sleepy island of Île Sainte-Marguerite is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Cannes. The ferry ride to the island is quick and easy, and the island has several lovely beaches where visitors can relax in peace. The old fort on the island makes it a great place to visit if you're interested in military history, while views of the glittering coastline of Cannes are breathtaking from any location on the island.

Adorable small island! Calm forest and extremely pretty coast!

Martin Z — Google review

Such a great place to visit, an easy Island to get around. We took the public ferry across from the mainland port, $38 return for 2 people.

Joanne P — Google review

We took a shuttle to access the island. The staff was nice and friendly. The island was crouded but there were enough places for everyone. Tha water was clear, the hike through the woods was fun. The statues underwater were not easy to find but it was exciting to look for them. I loved that journey and would definitely come back again.

Amal B — Google review

Great island! One can walk around the island by foot. Don't forget to bring to eat and drink. There's only one place to buy and it's next to the ferry station.

F. Z — Google review

Beautiful place on earth!Definitely worth visiting. We booked a Horizon ticket from Cannes to the island via GetYourGuide. Worked out great.Food options are very rare and expensive. I’d suggest to bring your own food. ☺️

Lena B — Google review

Beautiful island, like a large park. If in Cannes, especially on a hot day, visit to the island is highly recommended. The boat ride is a breeze, 10...15 minutes, tickets can be bought at the port before the departure. Boar ride is an opportunity to enjoy the scenery and look at Cannes from the sea. The island itself is a large park, with nice trees and bushes, plenty of sightseeing opportunities. There is only one restaurant, reservation is recommended if interested, and two kiosks for snacks and light drinks. Then just walk around, enjoy the coolness of the forest and take a swim in the beaches between two island. 3...4 hours are sufficient on the island. So plenty of time to do regular Cannes stuff after the return.

Kaupo L — Google review

This is a lovely place to visit, but I wouldn’t recommend going for the beaches unless you’re young and in really good shape - this wouldn’t be a place to bring the elderly or children. The areas to lay out in are filled with people and the spot we picked had to be accessed by descending a rocky cliff face about 7 feet tall.

Emily S — Google review

Quiet and Relaxing. 15 minutes boat ride from Cannes. There are 2 snacks shops where you can get sandwiches and snacks close to where you get off the boat. There’s also 2 restaurants on island.

Farah N — Google review

A beautiful place to take a hike and enjoy the ocean views. There are also older ruins and a lagoon that you can explore. The trails are clean, wide, and in great shape.

Seth G — Google review

Beautiful island in just 15 minutes from Cannes and big enough to accommodate a lot of visitors. Small lovely beaches for swimming and central alleys to completely avoid the people's presence.

Sehr schöne Insel, gute Abwechslung zur Hektik in Cannes.Unbedingt den Wanderweg um die Insel gehen und in einer der schönen Buchten baden.(Translated by Google)Very nice island, a good change from the hustle and bustle of Cannes.Be sure to take the hiking trail around the island and swim in one of the beautiful bays.

Marcel W — Google review

If you are around Cannes, take your time to visit this small, but very photogenic island. Great walks with incredible secret corners and views of the downhill coast. During the summer, there are many tourists, but it was worth it.

Zoo

Outdoor Activities

The zoo Marineland is an amazing place that features a wide variety of animals, both wild and captivity. It's perfect for families looking to explore some new creatures while enjoying some fun in the sun.

Second time we’ve been and didn’t disappoint. Not to pricey for entry. Avoid the shop as it’s incredibly expensive! But what shop that sells cuddly toys isn’t! Great day out. Definitely plan to catch the events around the park (orcas/dolphins) very good experience.

Edward ( — Google review

It is a nice place for families. We were there on Saturday and I expected to see crowded place, but in fact it wasn’t feel like that. Territory is big and you can easily find what to do. There are few kids playground, cafes, big aquariums with huge variety of fish. My child liked seal show the most. Tunnel with sharks is fantastic as well. I recommend this place to visit if you are in Cannes, Antibes or Nice. It worth it.

Kateryna M — Google review

A pure moment of happiness shared with the Orcas. Very little people. The shows are very educational. The park is at human dimension not too big. Practical entrance with easy parking system. Subway is there. You also have an amusem*nt park that was closed during my visit.

A. E — Google review

An experience that can hardly be described in words, it must be experienced, because that's the only way to feel the connection with the marine world. For each and every recommendation (for all ages), we continue to recount events from the park. Once again, whoever is nearby should definitely stop by .

Slobodan V — Google review

I visited for an extended weekend and the VIP experience package. I've never visited France, nor do I speak French and the staff were so friendly and accommodating!I care deeply for the welfare of captive cetaceans and I was delighted to see how engaged and active both the dolphins and orcas were, even outside of shows. They always had some form of enrichment, and it was fascinating to see the orcas making up "games" or working together of their own volition to try and retrieve a toy that was stuck on a ledge. It was a shame part of the park is closed off to visitors for weekdays - such as the seals, dolphin lagoon and orca stadium - so best to visit on a weekend though this means all the shows are significantly busier and the park was pretty much empty on the weekdays. When booking the VIP it was a little unclear what the orca experience entailed, causing some confusion for me and my friend. I booked the package, so got to go up to the glass for photos and up close to the show pool during a demonstration while my friend booked just the orca experience and got an up close look at Inouk in a back pool. The VIP is SO worth it - pro tip! If you're interested in your photos from the photographer, ask to pay for them to email you the photos, this isn't something they advertise but are happy to do it. For prints you'll be paying a fortune. All the staff are friendly and transparent, and were happy to answer any questions we had about any of the animals. I really want the orcas to stay, rather than being transferred to another park.

Jack S — Google review

In general the place is nice and the staff is really kind, only the fact that almost all the restaurant inside were closed (just one was open) was a little disappointing..and the food was not even that good. Apart from that,it was a good experience.

Fra N — Google review

Lovely place to spend time with your kids and to enjoy some awesome shows: eared seals, dolphins and orcas. First time visiting this place and I will definitely come back again.

Elena-Tatiana C — Google review

To visit the entire park with all attractions takes around 5 hours. But do not rush, the animals at this place are very unique and artistic. The environment is very animal friendly. Decorations are comprehensive and very close to the nature ones.

Stanislav D — Google review

Great experience in the pre-season (April)! Beautiful weather, not crowded, very nice staff. And last but not least, wonderful animals and fascinating shows. The lovely and professional animal trainers also must be mentioned! The day we spent here was amazing!

Balázs T — Google review

It's a nice park but it's missing some entertainment and the animals, for example the Dolphins, are being kept far away from the public The shows are fun to watch but there's a lot of time in-between that you need to fill up.. the park is clean, well maintained but can use some more playgrounds or sea life.Do not worry if you get hungry. There are plenty of restaurants or vending machines around the park. I would've preferred more sea life attractions (some aquariums or educational stands) where kids could play and learn but okay..Unfortunately the waterpark and amusem*nt park next door where closed despite being 30° in June..Will definitely come back next year with my son to do all the animal encounters!!

Gerard M — Google review

Animals have lovely large habitats and as far as orcas and dolphins go I must say I did feel like I would be against it but was pleasantly surprised at the depth and size of their homes . Great family day out- food outlets a little pricey but this is expected

Ashleigh B — Google review

Visited in May 2023. The place is different from many other oceanariums. It's unique with seal, dolphin and killer whale shows in one place. It's focused on education, giving information about biology, ecology, marine life preservation. It's interesting to watch how clown fish are breeded and how different corals grow... There is a huge paid parking available and there are a lot of places you can eat at or just have a drink.

Iryna K — Google review

Absolutely breathtaking for me, all three performances were great and I was impressed that both trainers and animals are enthusiastic about the performance. The sea lions are great, the dolphins are amazing and the killer whales are fantastic. Behind the killer whales is a large pool with teenage dolphins - they threw a ball with us and the experience was absolutely surreal.Yes, we can debate the breeding and exercise of these amazing animals in captivity, but the staff gave me the impression that they know and love their charges, and the residents of the pools seemed to be at ease and enjoying the activities. The park is relatively small, but I compare it to the zoo in Prague :-)Shops and refreshments are ok.Two problems - the contactless cards did not work at the drink machines at the killer whales. And what bothered me a lot is the absence of drinking fountains - this is a huge and incomprehensible mistake in the heat.

Sileny K — Google review

Fun experience. Huge turtles, sea lions & orcas. There’s a water park too. I don’t like the captivating of large mammals but apparently the orcas here are born in captivity so there’s a small relief in the fact they’ve not been taken from the wild. Still doesn’t feel right.

Byron S — Google review

it is a nice park. my kids enjoyed it a lot. the only con was that the presentations at the begining of the shows were very long (starting in french, then switching to english at the end) for my kids taste. Compared to Loro Parque in Tenerife it still needs more entertainment.

Raluca S — Google review

Very nice beach with beautiful view. Not too crowded. You can rent a sunbeds and bikes there. A few cafeterias and some best clubs around.Toilet, shower and changing room acailable to public behind the cafeteria. Cheap parking nearby (€4.50 per day).If only the sand was nicer and there were less pebbles. It was hard to get in the water without protective shoes. It can get windy there and then the waves are too high and make it impossible to enjoy water which becomes very messy. There is a deep steep carved by waves.

Notable street

Sights & Landmarks

The long, prestigious promenade known as the "Côte d'Azur" is located in Cannes and runs along the seafront for a mile. Along its route are many luxury shops, casinos, and palaces. It's also home to the famous Cannes Film Festival every May.

Nice vibes , many coffee shops and restaurants , many streets are pedestrians , there are some road closures

We have been vacationing on the Cote d'Azur for the past few years. Of course, we always come for coffee, to the shops and for a walk along the promenade. The last time we were there was during the film festival and it was understandably full of visitors.

Bogdan M — Google review

What's really disappointing about all the beach bars is their menus are pretty much a replication of one another. There are very little options for vegetarians, either risotto or pasta. It's like 10 years ago in the UK

Lisa C — Google review

The famous boulevard. Nice shops along the way and great for walking by the beach.

Hollo — Google review

Popularly known as Palais des Festivals et des Congres", La Croisette is about 22 km long promenade in Cannes along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea where the Cannes Film Festival is held. There is a sidewalk with hotels, casinos, brand stores, a rose garden and places with lots of shady trees where families meet and spend their quality time. There are interesting places around this place to stroll and explore. If you are falling short of time or do not have energy for a walk, then one can enjoy a small touristic city train tour to explore the nearby area. The place is dynamic with lots of hustle bustle of the tourists and locals. The evening sunsets and the night illuminations and combined with festive fireworks make this place truly romantic and mesmerizing. A must to visit when you are in France.

It's located just 20 minutes from Bormes-les-Mimosas and features two restaurants, picnic tables, and nearby parking under the shade of pine trees. Basic beach with no facilities for visitors. Paying 12 euro parking even you go there at 1600 is unacceptable . Depending on time it visit should pay respective parking. And you park in the forest full of dust. There is only one dirty place on the entrance to change or to toilet. Far away from beach.

At just 20 mins drive from Bormes-les-Mimosas, la plage de l’Estagnol is a quaint little sand beach, with clear and wonderful warm waters, beautiful views and settings in a well preserved Mediterranean bay. It has a nearby parking that costs 11 € where you can park your car under beautiful pine trees. There are two restaurants offering a good choice of refreshments and foods. Highly recommended for families with kids. Make sure to get there early as it gets busy very quickly.

Personal favourite. Calm hidden gem with 2 lovely restaurants that offer reasonable prices. Great for tanning and shallow waters. No screaming kids. 10 euro per car entry. You are able to picnic in the forest so do bring your picnic table and chairs.

Grotte de Saint Cézaire is a stunning cave system filled with intricate stalagmites and stalactites, offering guided tours that showcase its celebrated cave, dolmens, and barrows. The 40-minute exploration of this underground world provides a glimpse into its Roman and medieval past. The tour is informative and suitable for all ages, with the temperature inside remaining constant at 15 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Highly recommend! The tour is great for all ages with beautiful geological formations and lots of interesting facts about the caves. Definitely worth a visit. The staff spoke perfect English and were extremely knowledgeable. And super nice!

Ingrid Z — Google review

A 40 minute guided visit inside in this not so big grotte/cave for the family. Beautiful stalactites that were created as years passes by. Just be careful when going down as to not fall as the path can be slippery. I wouldnt recommend going down with handicap young kids that have trouble walking. The entrance fee was reasonable.

Joan D — Google review

Home to some interesting underground features, and the guide truly does it justice. Humour, kindness with the kids, a great educational experience! If you're used to caves though this one probably won't fare as the best you've seen. The tour lasts about 40 mins.

Aurélie M — Google review

I recently had the pleasure of exploring the depths of Grotte de Saint Cézaire, an enchanting natural wonder tucked away in the Domaine de la Grotte Saint Cézaire. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped by an aura of ancient mystery and natural beauty. Our guided tour was not only engaging but also fun and educational. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, weaving stories of the cave's history, its geology, and the unique features of the intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations, holding us spellbound throughout the journey. Their enthusiasm for the cavern's secrets truly elevated the experience.Despite the deep, cool, and sometimes narrow passages, the tour was accessible and enjoyable for all ages. Whether you're a seasoned spelunker or new to caving, Grotte de Saint Cézaire offers a fun, captivating experience that unites adventure and learning. In conclusion, a visit to Grotte de Saint Cézaire is more than just a tour; it's an immersive journey through time, encapsulating millions of years of natural history in a breathtaking, hour-long exploration. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an intriguing and enjoyable activity in the region. Don't forget to bring a light jacket – it's cooler underground!

This was a really nice day out. The grotte was fascinating and enthralled a 4and 6 year old, mainly because of the fantastic young man who was our guide. Tyrolean for older kids, archery, mini golf, bouncy castle and snacks, all done very nicely nestling in the countryside. This was a nice thing to do, not a rip off, nice selection of souvenirs too.

Deborah C — Google review

Visited this grotte multiple times. It's a guided tour and better to reserve tickets online. So you know the time you can enter. Else you need to buy tickets for the next entrance and wait for may be 15-20 min. There is a restaurant nearby and a food truck. There is a good big area for accrobranche for kids and adults. So you can plan atleast half a day here after the visit. Nice and shady place outside the cave as well. Will recommend

Slightly off the beaten track, these caves are great for a family outing. With a great guide in French & English, visitors are taken down the grotto through easy-to-walk steps until a depth of 40m is reached. Temperature is a constant 15C so some might want to bring a light sweater. For sure worth a visit if you're in this part of Provence.

Beautiful jewel of an afternoon out. I would suggest trainers for this 40 minute exploration of a grotto to discover a secret underground world. The tour is about 40 minutes and is in groups of around 10. The history of the formations is fascinating and the kids loved it. The Nex door there is an accrobranche zip line facility which the kids would like, but it was raining on our visit. Drive up to St Cezaire is beautiful also and there is free parking on site. Well worth a visit.

We visited on a Sunday in February and it was a great time to go. Only a handful of people were on the French/English tour. The guide was approx 45 mins while we winded through the cave passages. It was well done, lots of interesting information along the way. Be careful as it can get slippery and there are some low parts that you need to crouch down. Not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. 15 degrees no matter what season. A lovely shop at the entrance to purchase souvenirs. Well worth a visit especially for children, it was such a great experience!

Mountain cable car

Transportation

The Mount Faron cable car takes visitors to a 584 metre summit for breathtaking city and riviera views. The ride is easy to take, with an easy transport up the mountain. There is a restaurant on the summit where you can enjoy a good meal and stunning panoramic views of Toulon and the Mediterranean Sea.

It takes you to the mountain top by 8 euros which is quite cheap and the view is great as well as the journey. However to reach the cable car it might be tale 20 to 30mins walking and clmbing from the main station of Toulon. Also, there might be a queue, so set aside atleast around 2 hours for the total trip.

Roshni C — Google review

Iconic view over Toulon. At least a 5-10 degrees Celsius colder too which is really refreshing on hot summer days. Parking here was for free, just ask for the coin. Limited availability though. Up hill you will find multiple locations for a great view, a world war II memorial site with tank and an aircraft-defense cannon, 2 restaurants and even a little zoo. Must see!

Franky H — Google review

Nice ride up and down. Remember to reserve tickets online, then you can skip the queue! Only thing is they cram 15 people into this small car, which is really crowded especially during covid

I believe the ticket is only valid for 1 round trip.Beautiful opportunity to see the views!Tube station, follow signs for teleferic, is close by, to avoid the hill before hand.

Amazing views of the area but we had to wait 45 minutes to go back down at the very end of the day and ended up late for dinner. Perhaps better to drive up instead to enjoy the top of Mont Faron. We happened to be there on the 15th of August so we got to watch part of the air show from up top as per the pictures.

The experience was fairly enjoyable, the wait to get on was less then 20 minutes and it really was a great way to see the mountain rather then driving up. The experience doesn’t cost that much and the mountain it self is great for photos. Would highly recommend to any tourists visiting Toulon

It is one of the most beautiful sites in Toulon. it costs only €9 for a round trip. The site is magnificent. there is also a museum and a zoo on the top.

Madhushree S — Google review

The walk from city center is not for the faint of heart. You’re better off purchasing a bus 40 ticket and enjoying the panorama. It was quiete an adventure for a few pics, once you withstood line for the cable car, but priceless views of Toulon.

Masha K — Google review

Loved it, fantastic views, hardly any queuing, very fast to the top. Little bit scary but well worth it

John D — Google review

It's my first time It's nice 😌 I enjoy 😉 but only for a 10 minutes up 5 minutes and down 5 minutes one's trying ok 👍 one more thing don't care about tha staff I think they have a problem because they don't smile very serious like 😮‍💨 only tha the ticket counter the woman she welcome with :-)

Ram D — Google review

Cool way to see Toulon. Tough walk from the town centre to the start of the cable car. Price was €8.50. Cafe at the top friendly and helpful with good selection of food and drink.

Alan W — Google review

You can get to the cable car station by bus line 40. The price for the return ticket is €8.5 and it is definitely worth the price. The frequency depending on the number of passengers, as if there are few, they are waiting a little bit. The journey takes around 5-10 mintues but the view is spectacular, the cabin also has glass floor. Be aware that there is a 30 minute lunch break between 13.00-13:30.

Viktor L — Google review

Phénomenal experience, upon arriving at the top of the mountain you get a beautiful view of the azure sea and also a lot of terrain to explore peacefully, a few minutes away there's a zoo and in another direction there's a shrine.

Rias G — Google review

Very cool zip line that takes you quickly to the top but still gives you time to enjoy the fantastic view!

Joe L — Google review

A must experience in Toulon. It's a good idea to buy a 1-day pass "Jour telepherique" at the Tourist Office on the day when you plan to go to Mont Farron.

Irina U — Google review

From city to Telepherique is easily accessible by bus 40 or by car.We (2adults & 4y old) had really good experience. View from top was mind blowing.Cable car is frequent so don't have to wait long. There is restaurant, toilet facilities (2-5min by walk) and Zoo(25min by walk).

Ismat S — Google review

Brilliant view's up the top of the cable car ride. We walked around and went to museum. There is a Zoo up there to. We had a coffee in the cafe with the most amazing view's. Highly recommended.

Abbey

Sights & Landmarks

Abbaye du Thoronet, one of the 'The Sisters' trio of Provencal Cistercian abbeys, was built between 1160 and 1190 as a stone monastery with an original cellar where wine and olive oil were made. The ultra-austere style of architecture includes pure proportions, perfectly dressed stone, and a subtle interplay of light and shadow on unadorned but never severe geometry.

Worth the visit, PLEASE pay the £3 for the audio tour device because it makes such a difference and makes this amazing abbey woth the visit. Its 911 years old! There is am actor also voicing the part of an abbot and what he saw in his day, it made the visit come alive.

Edmund — Google review

We went here on the recommendation of a family member and were not disappointed. What a fantastic abbey that is still in it's original condition. You can take a 1 hour guided tour or take the map and tour on your own. If you would like a guided tour in a different language than French, make sure you call ahead and request the language you would like for your tour. The atmosphere here was very peaceful. Plenty to photograph and appreciate. Would definitely recommend a tour here if you are in the area. Well worth it.

Wonderful visit !Sellers were attentive, kind and happy to help you. The entrance is 8€ for adults but it's free for those under 18 years old. (Excellent for a family)Provides services such as guided tours. Visit take an average of 1 hour. Also provide book about French Historic Monuments, Bible, and so on in their shop at the entrance of the building.Have a parking lot with a small food seller. Prices are ok which is nice when you have kids and/or babies.I recommend it to everyone !

I’ve seen old churches and ruins of really old one. But this 10th century stucture was really amazing! Inside the time stood still, as is typical to these former holy places but it still had that shroud of sadness lingering all over the place.Getting here was really difficult. Our “TomTom” navigator was so lost and first tried to guide us through very narrow cart parths. Luckily we had that small car and fit that path quite well, thank you. But we decided to turn it off and use the main roads and logic. Found the parking lot 10 minutes later via different route.

Such an inspiring abbaye in the middle of Provence. A big plus for architects to visit, there is some contemporary design pieces. The olive tress garden is amazing along with the inner church.

Visiting Entrevaux feels like exploring Minas Tirith from “The Lord of the Rings”! Winding, narrow, cobbled streets. Arched gateways and hidden squares. Staircases that spiral up into the shadowed heights. And towering over it all the Citadel. A magical place to wander around for a few hours.

I went to Entrevaux to see the citadel perched on its heights built by our dear Vauban, a very well-known character from the 17th century and much appreciated by Louis the Fourteenth. At the bottom of the village you can park easily. The visit begins at the foot of the citadel with access via a turnstile without anyone, which did not reassure me too much, the price per participant is 3 euros. Then you can go up on foot, it's a bit long and I hadn't chosen the right time slot for the heat. On the way up, I didn't meet anyone and I found it a bit isolated knowing that I am a woman. On my return, naturally, I went through the souvenir store but I did not find what I was looking for, I would have liked to buy either a bookmark or a small bust representing Vauban, this does not exist however a statue is to his effigy at the entrance to the medieval village.

As others wrote, the pay-as-you go gate is basically a lottery ticket. You might get in or not. Today I have probably drawn a blank/ contributed 3€ to conservation efforts. I’m not a gate engineer but this should be fixable. Otherwise the views from the photos of the ones that made it in looked fantastic.

A stiff walk from the town is very worthwhile . This fortress, typical of Vauban, is definitely a must visit when in Provence. The history dates from 1690 when it was built to the beginning of the twentieth century when it was used in WW1 to house German POWs. The views are also exceptional and worth the climb just for the scenery.

Le Roc au Serre et la chapelle Notre-Dame du Roc is a must-visit destination in Castellane, offering breathtaking views and a charming chapel perched atop the rock. The hike up the Chemin du Roc to the chapel provides amazing panoramic views and is worth the effort for any fit and capable walker. Families with young children can also create unforgettable memories by exploring Castellane with Les Anes du Verdon, who offer donkey crossings.

It is a small charming church on the top of the Roc mountain in the heart of Castallon village. From the first sight it seems like the mountain is too steep to climb, but indeed there are two not difficult at all trails, leading to the church and the panoramic viewpoint over the village.I took the Chemin du Croix (Christ Path) from the village center. To come back if you need to take another path, take right side on the crossing, it will lead you through the splendid view over the Notre Dame du Roc and the Old Tower. There is no accessible way to the church though, only hiking one.Inside of the church one will find lots of gratitudes from 18th century and till nowadays. Very touching.

Verdon Gorge, also called Gorges du Verdon, is a stunning river canyon renowned for its white-water rapids and picturesque cliffs. Visitors can hike on a trail leading to a viewing deck offering breathtaking views of the gorge. The area boasts magical reflections in the water and beautiful mountains that make it an ideal place to spend time with family. A boat ride from the nearby pier offers visitors spectacular perspectives of this natural wonder.

We drove around the Verdin Gorge area during early October and took our time enjoying the fall colors and stopping at most viewpoints for over four hours so we only touched the surface of this gorgeous (pun intended :) ) area. Not many cars were on the road during our visit and the water level appeared to be very low.

Before I went there, I read a lot about the Verdon Canyon. I thought my family should see it, but it wouldn't be anything special. I was completely wrong. Photos don't do justice to the beauty of this natural wonder. The canyon is deep, surrounded by mountains, and a river flows below. We reached the lake and rented a small boat to go deep into the canyon. An extraordinary experience. I higly recommend this place.

I was surprised to see that the color of the water in real life wasn’t as blue as they looked in the photos. It could’ve been because it was cloudy on the day we went. But the water was very refreshing to swim in and it was a calm day without too many boats in the end of June.

Nathali — Google review

The Gorge du Verdon is a stunning river gorge in southeastern France, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and crystal clear turquoise waters. It is often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of Europe" due to its impressive size and dramatic cliffs. While the Gorge du Verdon is undoubtedly a remarkable natural wonder, like many other natural sites around the world, it is not immune to the challenges posed by climate change. Climate change has the potential to affect the gorge in a number of ways, and these impacts may be of concern. One potential issue related to climate change is the alteration of water levels in the Verdon River. Changes in precipitation patterns and temperature can affect the flow of water through the gorge, potentially affecting the scenic beauty and recreational activities that depend on the presence of the river.Rising temperatures may also affect the flora and fauna of the region. Species that are adapted to specific climatic conditions may face challenges as their habitats change. This could lead to shifts in ecosystems and potential disruptions to the natural balance within the gorge.Efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change are essential for the long-term conservation of the Gorge du Verdon and other natural wonders. This can include measures such as sustainable tourism practices, conservation initiatives, and the promotion of environmental awareness. It is important for visitors and locals alike to appreciate the beauty of the Gorge du Verdon while being aware of the need to protect and preserve its natural environment. By adopting sustainable practices and supporting initiatives that prioritize the preservation of the Gorge, we can work to ensure its beauty and ecological integrity for future generations to enjoy.

Great place to visit in September ! We took catamaran for 1,5 hours and enjoyed the trip to the fullest !

Alevtina A — Google review

It’s definitely a must see place if you are in Provence. This is the beautiful raw nature that leaves you in awe. Highly recommend renting a kayak or catamaran, the prices are reasonable. The place is worth enjoying it, admiring, taking photos, riding a boat and swimming in the river. But to me it’s not really the place where you can relax on the shore due to the lack of facilities. And this is ok, as this place is what you want to admire. During the high season I suggest coming early morning, around 09.00 or max 10.00

Great parc for children and parents. We spent very nice time. We arrived at 10 and everyone made the same. Best time was at 12 and after. Be careful with TequilAbeille it rly makes you feel dizzy. Ah and the cowboy show The Vengeance is not rly good for little children. Real wild wild west. The Circus was great and new show in the Saloon was awesome. We went there on a Friday in July. There was basically no need to wait for all the facilities. There were performances more or less every two hours. The actors and actresses were very very professional, and the attitude of all the staffs were very nice even when the kids kept asking for playing the same game repeatedly. Children under one meter are free, and there are many items to play. Very good experience! Great for little ones.

Brilliant place for kids! We are a 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 family down here on vacation/holiday and came for a day of non-beach activity. Stayed the entire day and had a blast. Great value! The whole place had a perfect balance of having lovely staff and being well organized but without a corporate feel or sense of being robbed at every opportunity. Free parking was a good start and easy quick on entrance ticket purchase. Queues were none existent or light (we visited in peak of summer season) and plenty of places to buy a quick or proper restraunt lunch. Also plenty of benches in the shade for a packed lunch (very impressed with this as the places to sit in the shade with your own food were plentiful - something you dont see in US/UK - saw one guy with a full cool box! - not to crowded for a stroller or even a litte wagon). Clean WCs had drinking water fountains outside that you could actually get a decent bottle under! This and the Splash Park area were fantastic to stay hydrated and cool so wear or bring a bathing suit in the bag 😎

It was an excellent day in OK Corral and the great way to end our summer vacation. We visited during the peak season and the hottest week in summer but we enjoyed the rides without waiting too long it is because the rides are well varied for different ages and height. My son who is 4 years old and 1m13 enjoyed almost all the major attractions. There are also great rides for the little ones. The best part is they have a water attraction so we put on our swimsuits and it's an instant relief from the strong summer heat. It helped a lot to enjoy the park in the afternoon refreshed by this water attraction. The employee also makes sure that you take a good soak before entering for sanitary purposes. The park is clean as we see the staff go around and check the cleanliness of the park. Sad for disrespectful people who throws their cigarette butts everywhere. Great spectacle also showing cowboys and indians - which showed somehow the truth of western story. Good job!

Katch B — Google review

The park is a lot of fun in itself but beware the food catering is horrible, truly disgusting and shamelessly overpriced. Come with your own food and drinks and you'll have a great time there with the kids

Cello M — Google review

Had a great day at OK Corral. We took a family with children aged from 6 to 16 and there was enough to satisfy both age groups. The park was extremely well-maintained. Despite being busy, it didn't feel over- crowded and we didn't have to wait long for any ride. Despite not speaking French, we enjoyed a couple of the shows. Highly recommended for a family day out.

I can only give bad stars because when I was there with my family and 2 more families on the way we accidently found the place while staying at CapFun , we walk in after being checked by very strange security guys. specially the big and large badly dressed and smelling guy we finally came to cashier. And when I almost was going to Pay the big Large ugly guy came to me 5 minutes later telling me I can not go in with my sweeming thing. I kept telling him was not but he didn't care, he just told me I could not go inn Like that, so I pulled back my card from the paying machine and informed the cashier that this Guy was a bad bad thing for the business of the Area, I took my family and Left and the other 3 families didnt wish to come either .I call this shame on directory to have such an ugly bad smelling and impolite security people working there , he didnt know the difference between short and Sweeming penty.

Robi S — Google review

Wild west theme park with tons of performances. Have you seen a ride on a bison or Zorro drama while having a lunch? If not, definitely must visit. The park itself consists of different kind of attractions. The aqua park area is for a small kids up to 8 only (tiny facilities).Notes:* there is no priority ticket* most of the attractions are not comfortable for a tall people* for adults there is not enough attractions* all performances are in french (action is a small part of it), there is no translation even on the paper. In general we’ve enjoyed the time being there.

Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is a Catholic basilica located in the small town of St-Maximin-la-Ste-Baume in central Var department, France. It was constructed over three centuries from the 13th to the 16th and houses historic organs and relics of Mary Magdalene. The basilica is well-preserved and worth visiting for its historical and aesthetic value, offering free entry even to the crypt during low season.

A hidden gem. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but this basilique is among the best in France. Incredible architecture, powerful organ, and beautiful art.The crypt of Mary Magdalene is beneath the church and there is an entrance accessible from inside

Matthew K — Google review

It was beautiful! I can't believe Marie Magdalen's remains are there.

Maeva E — Google review

Wonderful place well preserved, which dates back to the beginning of ChristianityThe abside is really spectacularThe 2000-years old crypt contains the remains of our Saint Sister Marie-Madelaine, which seems unbelievableOne downside : large groups of people just stay packed inside the crypt for long periods of time, preventing other persons from accessing the tombs

Guillaume M — Google review

A dream come true! I also visited her cave and her chapel in La Cadière-d’Azur 🇫🇷❤️

Dulce D — Google review

Beautiful church - well preserved and taken care of. It is worth visiting not only for religious people but also for someone with a little bit sense of esthetics. When I was there the entry was for free 💴 even entering the crypt we did not have to pay but it was low season - middle of the winter. Highly recommended.

This is a great church to see, with lots of stories and history. We had the luck to benefit from the night guided tour organised by the local Tourism Office. This is a fantastic way of discovering the church with a new prism.

Very nice basilic, worth to visit. Also the town itself looks good. Next to the cathedral there is a big parc with playgrounds for the kids.

Beautiful cathedral. Must visit. Not so much Marie Magdalena churches in the world. This one probably the biggest. Very good for better Christianity understanding.

Lake

Nature & Parks

Lake of Sainte-Croix is a manmade lake surrounded by several villages offering dining, boat rentals, and beaches. Aiguines, with its stunning view of the lake and Valensole plateau, is a medieval village known for wood turning. It's an ideal spot for hiking, whitewater sports, or simply relaxing on a pebble beach. The commune covers a wide area including the Verdon National Park and the Gorges de Verdon canyons.

Beautiful lake leading into Gordon Verge. We rented a pedal boat for an hour and swam in the cool water. Finding a boat was easy on a Monday morning but you probably want to get here first thing in the morning on the weekends.

Lam D — Google review

We were there at the end of March, the whole place was ours. Beautiful nature.

Selim O — Google review

The Lake of Sainte Croix is a beautiful lake with crystal clear turquoise water and beautiful views of the mountains around. There’s so much to explore around the lake and the gorges du verdon. A must when visiting the Verdon!

Sebastian R — Google review

Just beautiful. Try to have sunscreen and rent a kayak for two hours!

Tarek H — Google review

The Lake of Sainte-Croix offers a picturesque setting, especially if you're keen on paddling around the lake and exploring the canyons. For those interested in such activities, I recommend heading directly to Pont du Galetas. This area provides convenient parking spaces and options for renting boats and kayaks. The proximity to lavender fields adds to the beauty of the surroundings, making it a delightful destination for nature enthusiasts.

Sue C — Google review

40 Euro for two hours pedalling. The place is like an open air swimming pool, really good vibes. If you are passing by, stop for it. It is really worth it. 2-3 hours stay is a must to enjoy the canyon and the lake. Calculate ~30-60min waiting time to be able to enter to the lake with a boat. have fun!

B O — Google review

A beautiful spot to soend a day or two next to the lake with such emerald colour.

Viljenka S — Google review

One of the most beautiful places ive ever been, reasonable boat hire and the cutest paddle boats with diving board or slide. The bluest water I’ve ever seen

Kristy M — Google review

One of the best places in Europe , eventhough it was raining when we went so that we couldn’t do the boat ride/kayak or we couldn’t swim, but it worth even to visit and have that idyllic views of the lake. Heavenly place - gives you goosebumps.. Such a relaxing place. if you are a nature lover definitely worths a visit

Giz D — Google review

If you want to paddle around the lake and canyons, it is recommended to navigate directly to “Pont du Galetas”, where there are parking spaces and boat and kayak rentals. Very beautiful and very close to lavender fields.

Xuanyou C — Google review

Calm and beautiful place. Bring a picnic, hire a boat or pedalo, it is a great place to spend a whole day or come camping. Ground is very sharp everywhere and full of stones and pebbles, so water shoes may come in handy.

Monica M — Google review

Truly stunning scenery. Awesome opening into the gorge. The water is warm, clear and bright. Lots of affordable local kayak and paddle boat rental spots. Would absolutely recommend making the trek!

AJ — Google review

An amazing location, beautiful backdrop and piecful freshwater "sea" in which to swim and relax.

Doug H — Google review

It is a huge lake in the Alps of Haute Provence region, known for its boat sailing, kayaking, pets and kids friendly beaches with fabulous view over the lake from the village and over the village from the lake.I took a trail around and across the village and was delighted with the scenery around, but I didn’t take any boat nor kayak trip, that are highly recommended though because if the peaceful waters and stunning view. There is an easy access to the lake itself, and to the main village streets. One can find a camping car lot and camping itself right near the entrance to the village, fully equipped with playgrounds and barbecue places. The place is full with people though everywhere: in the water and camping.

The Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon, designed by architect Norman Foster, houses impressive archaeological artifacts and prehistoric exhibits that provide visitors with an in-depth understanding of the surrounding nature reserve. It is a must-visit destination for those interested in the Verdon canyon area. The permanent exhibit is elegantly laid out and highly recommended to explore with headphones available in several languages at no extra cost. This museum is an excellent educational experience for both children and adults alike.

Great museum.. well with the visit

Karen L — Google review

It is a nice museum in a nice building but we just couldn’t believe that all information was only in French. They even didn’t have printed materials in foreign languges. We used an English audio guide but it was incomplete. The multimedia presentation could use subtitles (even in French). And cherry on top was an arrogant commentary of a receptionist that we could learn there some French. Just wow.

Petra K — Google review

Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed by this museum. The building is good and there a few good features, but overall, there was too much text and some artifacts but little to keep children and adults alike captivated.Even if the content itself is very interesting and detailed, an overhaul of the main exhibit would be welcome to better match today's expectations for a museum. As a side note, please be aware that all text is in French only. Also, the "prehistoric village" nearby is quite nice.

Sviatohirsk H — Google review

Modern building, old-school exhibition. No narrative and minimal context for the exhibits, French only (unless you get the audioguide).

Great museum ! It’s a good place for anyone who loves the gorges du verdon ! visiting the museum was a highlight for me i learned so many new things about the gorges which is really nice because I love this nature reserve so much !! Kateryna M — Google review

Great permanent exhibit with great videos and good audio guide. Our visit was in early April, the Museum's coffee shop was closed and the village's businesses were all shut. Plan ahead if you're going to visit the museum in the low season...

Daniel C — Google review

Christina H — Google review

Fascinating museum of prehistoric man with amazing artefacts from the Baume Bonne cave and elsewhere. I learnt loads and the English audio guide is excellent. Nice kids activity books for age 4+ but museum probably more appreciated by ages 8+.

Rosie T — Google review

Excellent museum. My kids and I loved this place and I will have to return to take in all of the permanent exhibit. The layout of the permanent exhibit is elegant. I would highly recommend getting the headphones (available in several languages). They are available at no extra cost and add tremendously to the value of the displays.

The bay of Morgiou is one of the most scenic spots in the Marseille area. It features rock climbing, hiking and swimming, making it a great place to spend a day out. The bay is also home to a variety of wildlife, including seals and dolphins.

The view it’s impressive, the hike was difficult but worth it.Unfortunately we were not prepared with water shoes , so was uncomfortable because of the stones on the beach and in the water . The water was freezing but amazingly clear and clean.

Very beautiful!! Can be a long hike depending on your entrance. Going from Les Baumettes is a nicer hike but longer. There is also a part that is quite steep.Luminy entrance is shorter distance but you don’t see as much on the hike.No reservation needed. Overall, no matter your hiking route it is worth the effort.Water is crystal clear and can be a bit cold but it is just what you want after a sweaty hike.

Amazing views! Trekking shoes are strongly recommended because the path is full of slippery stones and quite steep. But the scenery is definitely worth it. The beach is pretty small and there were many jellyfish in the water today so we didn’t try bathing there.

Bararich8 — Google review

Very beautiful scenery if you are brave enough to do a hike. Might be quite difficult in some parts

ISole — Google review

A very nice Calanque. Beautiful. If you come with your own sailing boat, you are likely to anchor at 15 m dept. In summer there will be many boats at anchor and it can feel crowded. Also during the day there is a continued stream of day tripper boats, which is very annoying. Thus I only give 4 stars.

The small beaches here are great. One of them is with small pebble-stones, the other beach is just stone with pebble entrance to the sea.You have to come early tho, if you want to swim alone. Because of it is small, it gets full quickly. You have to park 3,5 km (car) away from this calanque, only the locals can get through the gates. So you have to walk on partly-walkingroutes that can take up to 30 min (maybe 2,8 km).You have hiking routes that can take you to great spots to take pictures.Tips:Go earlyTake (light) shoes you can swim withBig bottle of waterShoes for hiking (if you want to hike)Goggles (you can see small fishes swimming around your legs, we saw even an octopus)A bientot !

The Massif des Calanques is a coastal national park with exceptional geological configurations and subaquatic cave engravings. Its terrain is perfect for hiking, climbing, swimming, and admiring the stunning oceanic vista. It features numerous trekking paths and offers vegetation that may vary in dryness depending on the season. In addition to its natural splendor, the area boasts many fine dining establishments to suit all tastes.

This is easily one of the coolest parks I've been to. It's absolutely beautiful with plenty of well-marked hiking trails. There's also plenty of climbing areas, some of which require far-from-obvious trails that require scrambling or rappelling at times. Rarely, you'll find chains at the extremely scrambly sections.

Amazing, crystal clear water with beautiful nature. There are many different hiking routes with helpful information on the way that shows you the path.Lovely place with sweaty tanned joggers and students that welcome you along the beautiful hiking route. If you are feeling dangerous there is a little climbing route down to the beach with chains that have an SM feel to it. Went with my girlfriend and she looked great the whole trip. Ten out of ten. The place is nice for kids, on Thursdays and Sundays they are open till midnight with karoke and music. When we went, the water games weren't available. There are some animals which kids would appreciate and lots of games and rides for kids.Highly recommended for kids. When we went in the night, the guy who operates the giant wheel wasn't available and didn't cube even after calling him, that's why reduced a star, other than this it was a very good experience.

Everything was good ,but online it says that you not supposed to use bikini but on site is totally different :) you should wear the bikini and it's not allowed to go to the water with short even to look after your kids . I would be more happy if there was some animation show made for children but there wasn't :( Everything else was good :) children had fun , food good ,ice creams and pancakes. Lovely animals and friendly staff . They are toilets there ,place where you can seat and eat your lunch ,but not any changing rooms or locker to put your bag for safety. You can take the pushchair for the baby but it's not so easy to drive it there ;)

Small park/farm for families. Kids love it. Farm animals are beautiful and seem healthy. It's now possible to buy family meals on site . The park seems small but it's actually larger than it looks and can easily keeps kids busy for 3-4 hrs. Owners and employees are nice and helpfull, but there are not many of them. Recommended for families with young kids (from 2 to 12) to spend a day close to farm animals with a funny and simple playground, we will surely return.

An affordable way to buy 3 hours of peace, while kids enjoy and release all their energy, you can have some time for yourself. My last visit here was 7 years ago. They improved some parts with new things while other things remained the same. The woman at the reception as you arrive is welcoming and nice, while the girl and the guy at the food stand selling crepe and drinks could have been more welcoming, less frowning and perhaps get better training from fellow people from the service industry.Lovely place for the summer, a short stop for the young kids. One round for the summer is enough, a second round would be boring already.Bring your own towel, some cold drinks, a face spray to cool off.Went this August 2022 with 3 kids (12, 10 and 8 years old).

We recently visited,we can easily visit this place with @google maps help. You can take help of local transportation as well but if u wish to take walk it hardly 10 minutes walk from main city centre.Cost 5 💶 +1 Europe if you want to visit one more place which is just 5 minutes of walk.It is clean and you need to wear mask 😷 and health pass is mandatory (if you are Indian and you had taken 2 dose that certificate is valid). They have audio guide were you can select multiple languages and understand that. They had security guards also if need you can ask them also but for better understanding prefer audio guide. It will cost 3 euro💶 per place. So total 6 euro for both. It is little heavy on your pocket bt if you have interest then worth spending. If you are a person who have interest in art, history then this is a go to place.Duration can be 2 hours if you go into details.

Not just the darker colored stickers that have a number and the headphone symbol. The paintings were beautiful and I enjoyed audio guide gives an in-depth review. Definitely recommended because all of the captions are in French. I’m shocked they don’t at least have the English translations for any of the written words next to artwork.

Nice place to spend a few hours. Lots to see, including a plethora of statues in the lower level. There was a David Hockney exhibition on when we were there.

Amazing place. Hundreds of interesting paintings and sculptures. Antiquity section is very small, but medieval, baroque, romantic and neo-classical period (between 14th-19th century) are represented with hundreds of artwork. Worth the ticket price.

Ozge O — Google review

They have an excellent collection of sculptures. The rest of the museum didn't impress me so much (including the temporary Hockney exhibition). It's still worth a visit while in Aix.

Gabriel D — Google review

It was nice however I preferred La Chapelle with its beautiful collection of artwork from Cézanne, many of Picasso, a couple of Monet, and some others. All exhibited in a converted chapel.

Vincent N — Google review

Cool spot in Aix, would recommend going to see what’s there! It’s fairly inexpensive as well.

Your €6.50 ticket gives you access to two art galleries, the Musee Granet and the Collection Jean Planque, which is a 5 minute walk away. The Musee Granet will take around 30-40 minutes to wander round. It has a mix of paintings (including from Cezanne, Granet) and sculpture across three floors. Most information is in french, though audio guides are available. There is also a museum shop and toilet. You will be required to leave your bag in a locker (free).

Tom H — Google review

Well worth to visit the museum with big collection of Granet paintings, as well Cezannes and some of Picasso and other famous painters. There is also part with some older artefacts from Egyptian times, and with the same ticket you can visit other part of the galery set in a ex church. Nice to see some of Dalis work...

A great museum, quite small, therefore you can see everything really fast. Also, you can buy tickets there, they are very cheap 8€ per adult. Under 18’s enter for free.

Titos S — Google review

Did not see at its best as many rooms were closed due to the end of the Egyptian exhibition. Whatever you do do not miss the Annexe housing the Planque donation. Truly stunning.

Fairly small but a wonderful museum. Be sure to visit the accompanying museum with 20th century artists including Picasso.

There are several themes to see. At the time of our visit, there were a few different exhibitions happening at the museum; David Hockney, Collections de Cézanne á Giacometti, Archéologie Site d’Entremont, Collections du XIVe au XVIIIe Archéologie, Collection Jean Planque (aka Picasso aka my favourite exhibition here!). The ticket included access to all the exhibitions so it was a great value.

Angel K — Google review

It was a nice museum with some beautiful paintings and sculptures .. However my goal of visiting was to see the temporary Egyptian Exibition .. It has very beautiful pieces of Egyptian Art but the most inspiring for me was the Lizard's mummy which is believed to be the only one of its kind in the world .. I'm Egyptian and was happy to see such thing for the first time .. The ticket to this museum gives access to a nearby smaller art Museum as well ..

The main museum has a nice collection of modern pieces, but what really stands apart is the Planque collection in the chapel annex, a few blocks away. Really amazing collection of 20th century paintings donated by a former art curator who personally knew all the artists.

Museums

The Hôtel de Caumont is an 18th-century art center housed inside the Mazarin quarters grandest hotel particulier. It houses three quality exhibitions each year, as well as concerts and other events. The building itself is a standout star of the show, with its palatial rooms stuffed full of antiques and objets dart attesting to the opulence of its aristocratic past.

Went to the coffee shop. It is well worth a stop! I had a salmon salad for lunch and a house chocolate cake and coffee for dessert. Delicious! Also the building is fantastic. High walls and ceilings and classic furniture. Good place to estay away from the noisy streets, relax and enjoy good food

Absolutely delightful lunch experience. Delicious food, friendly service and the most lovely garden setting. The service was prompt and very pleasant. Very happy to recommend and would certainly return when back in Aix en Provence.

Not only a beautiful museum but also an amazing cafe and a must visit. It is beautiful inside and you must go outside to see the manicured gardens. The interior was well appointed with beautiful furniture and colours to match. The menu is varied, from French cuisine to an Asian inspired salad. Today I had a co*ke zero and the Plat de jour, Risotto with fois gros and perfectly cooked duck for 22€. The wine and drinks list was extensive and they serve local Rose. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and very attentive. The service was quick even during the peak lunch time rush.

Charlene E — Google review

Located just south of Cour Mirabeau, the Hotel de Caumont is actually a museum (don't be confused by the preface "hotel" which just means home). In this case, the home was owned by an aristocratic family in pre-revolutionary France and the owners have an interesting history interconnected with European royalty. The building is beautifully restored as are the surrounding grounds and the small garden. Inside, the first two rooms (music room and bedroom) are equally exquisite. But that is all there is to see of that ornately decorated period.Following those rooms was an exhibit on a totally tangentially related artist called Yves Klein who was a post-modern "blue" artist. Very inconsistent with the setting. For the cost of 14.50 Euro per visitor I do not think it is worth it...or at least if you are not as interested in Yves Klein. We would have loved to have seen more of the beautifully restored 18th century rooms instead.

Craig B — Google review

The museum hosts lots of different exhibitions throughout the year. I visited the one dedicated to Mucha and his artworks. I was really impressed. The building itself is unique. There you can find a tea salon decorated with old furniture. The facility of the museum is modern. Your visit may be accompanied with an audioguide. I recommend buying tickets in advance.

Beautiful place, but the visit depends a lot on the current exhibition. They have a lovely cafe, with rich decoration and different wallpapers for each room. Oh and such a beautiful little garden! I do think the entry is a bit expensive, 14 euros per person.

We decided at the last minute to step on the threshold of this private mansion restored in 2015. It is an artistic center and a special building located in the center of Aix-en-Provence. I caught exhibitions of the works of the artist who strongly embraced the surrealist current, Max Ernst. The garden of this place is also beautifully landscaped. Excellent small museum in a beautiful building. The Guggenheim collection was perfectly presented. The light, the explanations (both in French and English), the arrangements were excellent. Nice museum shop. There is a classic French restaurant that looked very good although we have not tried.

Vlad G — Google review

Exhibition showing at the moment on painter Pierre Bonnard and the Japanais movement. Lots of his works and Japanese prints. Of interest to some. I thought the price of admission was pretty steep. There are also a few rooms that capture the 18th century origins of the mansion, a garden, and a cafe.In the first building where you buy your tickets, a movie about Cezanne was showing. You are allowed in only when the film starts, about every 30 minutes. The place is not good for people unable to climb stairs. There is a lift, which the staff have to call, to view the film, but they left us to make our way up steps to get to the main building. Once there another staff operated lift will take you up and down to view the exhibition. Forget the garden though, more stairs.

Points of Interest & Landmarks

A tree-lined boulevard in Aix, Cours Mirabeau is celebrated for its restaurants and fountains. It's ideally situated to enjoy the works of Paul Cezannes, as his parents worked on the street in a former hat shop. The wide thoroughfare is popular with shoppers and tourists alike, who can take a stroll to imagine what it was like to walk the same streets as Cezanne himself.

Here is ware you would like to be. Specially after noon.Nice atmosphere and full of attractionsLot of artist 🧑‍🎨 and what they making for sell. Restaurants. Architectural. And happy people’s

Very nice street dedicated mainly to walkers, with lots of different choices of cafes and restaurants, also several shopping places and banks, very good for spending the day.

Cours Mirabeau is miraculously beautiful with maple trees on either sides keeping shades while you traverse from king Réné’s statue until the rotonde fountain.Along with king’s statue fountain, there are two other fountain on two crossings on the cours Mirabeau. One is the thermal stream and other one is 9 fountains. The water still comes from Mont St Victoire.Cours Mirabeau is the most important place of Aix. With lots of stone benches, restaurants, cinema halls, utility shops and street performer; this corridor is an experience in itself.

C J — Google review

Such a disappointment. Whilst a beautiful place which does come to life when a morning or evening market is around, the place has lost its shine. What was once a stand out street just a few years ago full of authentic Provençal restaus and cafes is now almost entirely faceless and personality-less pizzerias. And sadly not the type you find in Italy! Sub par food, over the odds prices, and poor service

This is the Aix version of Times Square. Though picturesque, nothing notable lives on the street. The restaurants all looked middling, the shops chains. The Saturday market was a disappointment as it largely sold cheap clothing. I did hope for more local goods and antiques.

Historical landmark

Sights & Landmarks

Sisteron Citadel is a historic hilltop fortress that spans 10 hectares and has origins dating back to the 12th century. The town's survival through the Black Plague and religious wars, as well as its role in imprisoning Prince Jean-Casimir Vasa of Poland, are part of its rich history. Visitors can explore three notable museums within the citadel grounds: the Citadel Museum, Baden-Powell Scout Museum, and Musee Terre & Temps.

Worth the climb for some gorgeous views from the top of the Citadelle. There is an entry fee, but it doesn't cost that much. You'll also get some information about the citadelle and there are tiny bits of information and rooms with pictures and films across the citadelle, but just wandering around and taking the time to practice photography was my option. For a nice overall shot of the citadelle, I'd recommend a short ten minute walk from the entry to the hills west of the citadelle.

Andr? S — Google review

Wow! Wow! Wow!Talk about awesomeness, this is one of it.Put on your walking/hiking shoes then work up a bit of sweat but well worth it.Entrance per adult is €7.10, which is a steal with the views that this citadel presents.“A picture speaks a thousand words”.

Eddy K — Google review

Brilliant, well worth a visit. Lovely place to eat and explore.

Beautiful historic fort of Sisteron. Fort is very well maintained. This fort has entrance fees; 7 euros for an adult and 3 euros for a kid (prices when we visited in April 2023).

Pentappa M — Google review

Beautiful citadel on top of the mountain. The price of the tickets to enter are all worth it. We visited on a super warm day but we were prepared and bring enough water. When following the patch (Green arrows) there is lots of information provided about the history of the Citadel and the Historical city of Sisteron.I can't remember exactly but there were like 12 or maybe even more defensive lines built in the complex of the Citadel. Impressive system made of pull up bridges, small stairs, arrow / shooting holes, watch towers. Invaders did not make a change thinking about that. Very interesting! There is a possibility to go all the way to the highest point into the tower on top of the Citadel. Stunning view from there but actually the view is amazing from everywhere. Not recommended to go on flip flops because of the walking up and downhill.

There is a charge for access, but it is quite reasonable. A family of five was paid in for €20.You can either catch the small train which drives around the town, or walk up. I would advise walking as the train was expensive. The walk is not too bad, it is signposted from the citadel base and takes about 10 minutes, though if you have a disability, there is a disabled parking area. Parking in the town is abundant, again I would advise you to park near the citadel.Almost all of videos, and signage within the citadel is in French; there are some in English but this doesn't particularly detract from the visit. It is a walk and wonder type thing, gaining more from the views and looking around inside. Worth visiting if I'm the Sisteron area.Average visit time is about 2 hours.

Christopher H — Google review

Nature & Parks

The Provençal Colorado is a former ochre quarry with striking red and orange landscapes, reminiscent of Colorado. The area's mineral riches are on full display, with canyons, valleys, hills and sculptural rock formations such as the Fairy Chimney. This path of ochre sands offers a more rugged experience compared to Roussillon, with fewer amenities and longer tracks that resemble light hiking.

The Provençal Colorado , well what a fantastic place to visit with all the family young children included. First of all parking for a car in high season is €8 which I thinks pretty reasonable . There’s two trails to choose from at The Provençal Colorado there labeled Blue Trail and Red trail . The blue trail is said to take 40 minutes, and the red trail is to take you around 90 mins if you’re fit and able . We chose the blue trail as we couldn’t manage the red trail . The scenery around The Provençal Colorado is absolutely stunning .i was genuinely taken aback by the views . Regarding footwear before you go on the trail, I would say you are fine in trainers/Sneakers if you like , just at the very end of the trail there is a small amount of water running across the trail . The team at The Provençal Colorado have kindly placed some logs to help you get across with dry feet . If you want you can also wear a pair of hiking shoes or boots whichever you prefer . There’s toilet facilities on site to use which are free . And may I add very clean and well kept . Also a restaurant and a van to get all your refreshments from . There’s also a souvenir shop onsite which has some beautiful items for sale too . I’d also like to thank the gentleman that runs the souvenir shop, because I’d dropped my wallet in his shop and he came chasing after me around the trail to return my wallet .Thank you very much sir , If that would have been back in my country it would have vanished. The Provençal Colorado is well worth visiting you won’t be disappointed.

Mick K — Google review

This path of ochre sands is bit more wild than the one in Roussillon, has less amenities. The longer track resembles light hiking, rather than walk in the park as in Roussillon.

Giedrius S — Google review

Nice place to spend a couple of hours, easy to park your car, your motorcycle, cycle. Two paths, one of 45mn and longer than 1h30 but both very easy and often shaded.

Jean-Jacques X — Google review

Beautiful canyon walking area. We bought tickets in advance for the 11h slot. Was afraid it was going to be crowded, but was pleasantly surprised. We did the long loop and only crossed a handful of other hikers. Lots of knowledgeable rangers around. Easy path ways and some great viewpoints. There's also some picnic tables in the parking lot so you can have lunch there. You can follow my travels @revelintravel

Liesbeth V — Google review

Such a gem in France. I recommende to visit this place in spring winter or autumn. It might be very hot during summer and there are no shade on the hiking/walking tracks. You can take a picnic and spend some time in the Park. There are tables and benches everywhere . A hat and sunscreen is à must. The whole visit is about 2hr.

Ansiya C — Google review

This was gorgeous! The place didn’t steal its name, it really does look like you are in Colorado. The great heights, the beautiful colours. There are two trails, the long route is 1h45min and the short route is 35min. Today was super hot so we decided to go for the short one, although I reckon under cooler weather conditions we would have picked the long one. It’s amazing, I did not suspect to find such a place in France and I can’t help wonder why this place together with the Sentier des Ocres in Roussillon are not more popular around France and the world.

Pauline — Google review

It costs €8 to park the car in high season. There are two options for the walk. We did the longer one, which involves a climb, but you get good viewpoints. We enjoyed the different scenery.

James W — Google review

Nice place to visit, the colors of vegetals / minerals of the canyon are bluffing. The parking is really big and easy to enter in.Planning some refreshments is a good idea as the only place near the entrance offering drinks, food and restroom is quite expensive for the goods proposed and the big loop is quite long to make (and hot of course during summer time).

François P — Google review

Lovely place!Definitely worth visiting!A few more signs could be added as we were not always sure we were staying on path and going in right direction. I saw some people struggling with that too.The picnic benches at the car park were amazing!I felt like in American movie all the time!

Katarzyna B — Google review

Spectacular place to walk around , especially the route marked in orange and taking 1hr 40mins.

Chris H — Google review

Amazing landscape, great hiking trails, of varying lengths, plenty of vantage points for photos. Small Cafe and WC on site.

Alexander L — Google review

A beautiful place to explore with 2 marked paths. It really feels as though you're in a desert landscape. Parking costs 5€ per car for the day. There are also a couple of places where you can buy a drink and a snack.

Helen E — Google review

I have trouble with long walks, especially with inclines, so this trek was somewhat difficult for me. However, by taking it slowly, I was able to make it to the actual site of the ochre hills. Have to say it was worth the hike. Thankfully it was sunny but cool. It's quite an unusual sight ; very photogenic.

Chris L — Google review

Entrance point to the so-called Colorado Canyon. It has all required facilities, cafeteria, water and chill place in the shadow to have a rest after the exciting walk via the Colorado. There is a paid parking, do not try to find any free one, because the parking fee contains 6 tickets to visit the Colorado. Plan around 3 hours to visit this place.

Stanislav D — Google review

Nice walk with some amazing views. The warning that the orange path is on the difficult side is not for nothing, but an experienced hiker will do the trek in under an hour instead of the 1.45.
